With the release of Version 0.15 of the Enosoft DV Processor comes a diagnostics reporting feature. This is described below.
To help identify issues with the software, we have added a way to take a "snapshot" of the software along with other useful information and have it sent via email to Enosoft. An example of an issue where this is useful is when a DV device is connected to the computer but the software does not recognize it properly.
To Generate A Report
Click the main Configure... button to open the Processor Configuration dialog box:
UPDATE - The exact appearance of the Processor Configuration Dialog box will be different than shown below as more features have been added since originally posting this message.
then click the Create Diagnostics Report button. You will see the following:
You may cancel the request at this point or continue (by pressing OK).
Depending on your system, collecting the information may take only a few seconds or it may take a few minutes. Please be patient.
After the information for the report has been collected, you will see:
To send the email to Enosoft, click Send. If the email request should fail for any reason (e.g., you don't have an email client), then you will be asked to save the report as a zipped file. You can then email it manually.
To cancel the report, click Exit.
To see what the report contains, click the "click here" link. You will see a dialog box similar to this:
The file sizes listed are for the uncompressed files - the actual report size will be smaller since the files are zipped.
What Does The Report Contain?
The first four listed below are always generated.
System Information - A Windows System Information report including details of your hardware, operating system files, multimedia drivers and installed applications.
Module Log - A list of all the modules (programs, drivers etc) running at the time the report was generated. It includes version numbers etc.
Event Log - The Enosoft DV Processor supports Microsoft Windows event logging. Applications can flag events (such as unexpected behavior) that get stored centrally. It is similar to creating a log file. Only those events flagged by the Enosoft DV Processor are collected.
Registered DirectShow Filters - The Enosoft DV Processor makes extensive use of DirectShow. A list of all the DirectShow filters (e.g., codecs) registered on the system is generated to help identify any missing or conflicting components.
The next two items may or may not be generated, depending on whether or not a device is connected, the processor is running etc.
Input Filter Graph - If a device or an AVI file have been selected for the input of the processor, this file will be generated.
Output Filter Graph - If a device or an AVI file have been selected for the output of the processor, this file will be generated.
PRIVACY STATEMENT
The information contained in a diagnostic report is used by Enosoft solely for the purposes of identifying the cause of unexpected behavior by the software. Parts of the report may contain limited personal information, such as the name of the user logged on to the computer, and information about other applications that are installed.
Enosoft will not share any of the information collected with any third party.
The software will only send information to Enosoft if you permit it to do so by following the procedure outlined above. No information will ever be sent without your knowledge and without your ability to determine exactly what the information contains. _________________ John Miller
